Formulaic. Predictable. Hammy. And the perfect movie to watch when it's 94 degrees and humid outside.
The Taking of Pelham 123 really is the perfect summer movie. Big stars, mild-violence action, "drama", and John Travolta as a villain. I love when Travolta gets all hammy and William Shatner-esque as a bad guy. Think Broken Arrow, Face/Off, and Swordfish - classic, campy, hammy John Travolta. The kind of maniacal bad guy who laughs crazily and ends every sentence with MF-er.
Since Tony Scott directed this film, you have to go in ready for a Tony Scott film. It means quick cuts, zooms, and motion sickness. But again - all good.
The movie is good times and Denzel Washington always makes for a sympathetic good guy you have to root for. Totally worth checking out on a hot summer afternoon.
