Comic-Con 2008: 24
Apologies for the even-crappier-than-normal pic - I was at the back of the room. I was lucky to get into the 24 panel, as they were only taking 20 more people behind me.
They showed a trailer for the November TV movie, as well as a clip. It featured Jack in Africa herding kids to an embassy. The whole movie was filmed in South Africa and fills in some time before Season 7. Jack had a messenger bag and did tons of shooting - ergo, it was awesome.
Carlos Bernard got massive response from the audience. I didn't realize he was a fan favorite - he's certainly always been my favorite. They didn't explain how Tony is coming back. Kiefer said that it's a "clever" way that he's coming back, and that it's interesting "what was done behind people's backs." Whatever. I'll take it.
Carlos joked about having been jobless since Tony died. He said, "there's a little softcore coming out soon." You have no idea how much I wish that weren't a joke. The writers brought him back because they didn't love the way Tony died and one of them joked that they brought Carlos back just so they could kill him again (which he quickly amended with "No we won't."). Carlos got up and started throwing cash at the writer. Carlos was hysterical.
Kiefer said he got to shoot at and tackle Carlos in their first scene together. God I live for a good Jack and Tony confrontation.
Brilliant Audience Member of the Day: This guy Cameron who commented on Jack's pervasive use of the word Dammit, followed by a request for him to use it on him. I squeed when Kiefer got all Jack Bauer up there and yelled "Dammit, Cameron!" Then when the kid walked away he yelled, "Dammit, Cameron, don't walk away from me!" Brilliant. He said that he started saying Dammit a lot because it's the one word he can get past the censors. Then he got wind of the Drinking Game and scaled it back some. Allegedly.
They of course got the obligatory question "When do people on the show pee?" Kiefer said they shot a bathroom scene once but it got cut. His rule is that any time the show cuts to the White House, that's when Jack pees, eats, and drinks.
Kiefer said episodes 8-11 are particularly exciting. They are still hoping to do a movie, but probably not until the show is over.
He was asked what the coolest thing Jack has done so far is, and he said "chopping that guy's head off in Season 2." Sweet.
Kiefer was very thankful - he probably said "thank you" 6 times at the end and he said we all rock. We do. And 24 had better be good this year!!!
