Comic-Con 2008: Thursday

We got in line at 8:00 this morning and it was already wrapped around the Convention Center. (First Hall H presentation at 11:30, doors opened at 9:45.) We were probably 1/4 of the way back in the 6,500 seat hall, decent seats. It seemed most people were in line for the Twilight presentation at 1:00. I don't know much about those books/movie, other than people either passionately love them or passionately hate them. And their fans wear homemade t-shirts. I've never seen so many homemade t-shirts - we're talking puffy paint and magic marker all over the place. Team Edward, quotes from the books, I have no idea what's going on. I feel so old and out of touch with Twilight. That might be a good thing.

Presentations:

The Day the Earth Stood Still - A scruffy Keanu Reeves and hot Jennifer Connelly. Keanu was really cool and introduced everyone on the panel. They showed some cool clips, it looks good. I'll wait for the reviews.

Max Payne - Mark Wahlberg, hot as S Mila Kunis, Ludacris. The movie looks like gun porn, pure and simple. Hot-ass gun porn. Mark was really funny. Everyone was "woo-ing" when he would start to talk, and he compared it to doing a concert in Japan. He also said, "Now I know why New Kids wanted to go back." Perhaps we'll get a Funky Bunch reunion? He also said it made him "warm in the pants." That movie looks good - biceps, violence, gun porn. That's all I need.

Then there was a special guest - Hugh Mother-loving Jackman!!! I was surprised when Wolverine wasn't on the schedule, but it was today's Big Surprise. He was soooooo hot. He was also really cool. He said he had just gotten off the plane and they just finished filming, but he wanted to make sure he was able to bring something to Comic-Con. Also, he gave the creator of Wolverine in the comic a shout-out -- and then proceeded to go down into the crowd so that he could shake the guy's hand. He said he always wanted to meet him and thank him, and that was just so frakking cool that he did that!! Fanboys eat that S up.

They showed a trailer for it. HOLYSHITOHMYGOD I had goosebumps the whole time. The whole time. It is going to be AWESOME! Gambit and Deadpool got huge reactions.

Push - Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, Camilla Belle. The movie is about people with abilities (telekinesis, forcing memories into people's heads, predicting the future, etc.) because of government experiments. Most important part: Chris Evans. He's funny and hawt. I knew nothing about the movie going in, but it looked pretty cool. I'll see it. Dakota was stuck in traffic, but came out by herself at the end of all the other presentations just so she could say hi. So cute. And she's not all awkward-looking and deformed like Houman and I thought she would be by now.

Twilight - Director Catherine Hardwicke, author Stephenie Meyer, and the cast - Robert Pattinson (Edward), Kristen Stewart (Bella), Cam Gigandet (James), Rachelle LaFevre (Victoria), Edi Gathegi (Laurant), and Taylor Lautner (Jacob). There was much squeeing every time Twilight was mentioned. I seriously had to cover my ears. It was awesome. The squeeing at Comic-Con is usually of the more masculine variety. The whole time Mike just kept saying, "What is going on?"

After that the hall totally emptied out - so many girls (and their squeeing moms) came just for that!

We're waiting for the RocknRolla presentation right now - Gerard Butler and Guy Ritchie.
